Guns

Because of this, hate speech is now easier than ever. White supremacists use guns to intimidate, threaten and attack political opponents. Armed opposition is a hallmark for hate groups and civilian paramilitary organisations. These extremists are no longer threatening to the public by disarming them with guns.

Hate

Jason Hayes (a New Jersey resident of the LGBTQ Community) organized a national protest to end gun violence. Nine people traveled from Los Angeles to support Jason and his cause, calling it DISARM HATES. This bill, which is a companion bill for the Hate Crimes Prevention Act, is now back in Congress. This Act would ban those convicted for misdemeanor hate crime from possessing or purchasing firearms.

Gun laws

The Disarm Hate Act is a federal bill that would prohibit gun buyers from purchasing guns if they are convicted of committing a hate crime. Although the Disarm Hate Act relies on existing laws in states on hate crimes, it would also ban individuals convicted of such crimes from buying guns. The Disarm Hate Act would require background checks on potential gun buyers. This is a requirement already enforced by the FBI.

Extreme risk laws

To prevent mass shootings and gun homicide, extreme risk laws were made. This law gives petitioners permission to ask a court to temporarily remove a gun from a person who is potentially dangerous. These laws aren't yet widely used by the public but states are starting to use them in certain instances. In some instances, these laws have prevented mass shootings and gun homicides. These are just a few examples.

Sandy Hook Promise

Several groups, including the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, Gays Against Guns, CeaseFire PA, and the Generation Progress Fund have endorsed the Sandy Hook Promise to Disarm Hate Act. This legislation was created in response to last year's Pulse nightclub massacre, which claimed 49 lives. It was defeated in committee. Sen. Casey reintroduced it this year following the tragic anniversary Pulse. While the Disarm Hate Act has yet to be enacted, it is possible for community members to take steps in order to move it forward.
