Recoil & Subsonic Capability - 10mm vs 45 ACP

hunter safety course fl

A few decades ago, I wrote a comparison article on the recoil and subsonic ability of the.45 ACP as well as the 10mm handguns. This article was extremely popular in the gun community. Both handguns have similar dimensions, weight, and advertised muzzle speeds. Below are the pros and con's of each handgun. When making a decision, you should take into account both the speed of each handgun and its range.

A 10mm recoil can be compared to a Magnum 357 Magnum.

The feeling of a 10mm Magnum is almost identical to that felt from a 357 Magnum. Both have similar amounts of muzzle power, although the 10mm has an edge in energy. The 357 Magnum, however, has a longer and more powerful bullet. There are some important differences between the calibers.

The recoil is the most significant difference between the rifles. If you are looking to use a 10mm auto, you should choose one with a low recoil level. While the 357 Magnum offers a higher velocity, the 10mm has a lower one. You will get only one shot off the higher your recoil level. The smaller case capacity of the 10mm also limits its use for self-defense in cities.

Subsonic vs. 45ACP vs.10mm

Although subsonic loads may be similar in size and capacity, their performance is different. Whether or not these two round-up the best hunting rounds for concealed carry depends on your personal preferences. You can choose which round to use by knowing the differences between these two types of ammunition. The bullet sizes are not the only difference between the 45 ACP cases and the 10mm cases. Semi-auto and single-shot versions are both available. Single-shot actions, however, are quieter.

Both cartridges work well for hunting deer-size game. However, the 10mm works best for self defense. The 10mm is also an effective bear-defense weapon. While this caliber offers higher recoil than the other two, well-trained shooters can handle it without much difficulty. For beginners or to practice marksmanship skills you can opt for a 45 ACP.

Recoil can be more harsh

The recoil produced by both calibers is similar, but the 10mm has a louder retort. The latter also produces a smaller muzzle flash, which can be helpful for acquiring targets. The recoil energies of the 45mm, 10mm rounds are not significantly different. There is no kick or muzzle flip.

The difference in recoil between a 10mm revolver and a 45mm revolver are minimal when compared to the differences between their flange lengths. At 50 yards, the difference between the two revolvers is 0.3 inches, and at 100 yards, it's 1.1 inches. This difference doesn't make any difference.

Handguns designed for.45 ACP are lighter and can hold fewer rounds

Handguns that are chambered for.45 ACP or.45 Super have a different bullet. To achieve a higher speed, the 45 Super uses a thicker bullet and a stronger pressure powder. Although this reduces the number of rounds that can be carried, the 45 super's bullet is much more powerful and can fly faster than an average bullet. This makes it better for home defense.

This difference is not significant. The.45 ACP cartridge was chosen by Gen. John T. Thompson, who insisted on a real "man-stopper" pistol after the.38 Long Colt pistol failed to impress him during the Philippine-American War. The.45 ACP cartridge has a lower usage rate than the.38 Long Colt. It is still used by most NATO military units.

Conservation efforts are encouraged by the Wild Lands program. FWS and National Rifle Association formed a partnership to create Project Gunter, a youth-oriented shooting sports program.
